I lived in Mumbai for two years. One question still haunts me.
Where do the children sleep?
For almost two years, I saw children asking for money beside rickshaws. I heard many explanations about where they came from and what happened after they left the street.
Eventually, I realized I did not know what was true.
FEEL AGAIN begins there.
The question underneath
Someone once told me the children were part of the “aesthetic of India.”
I could not forget it.
Not because I believed people did not care, but because I saw how easily any of us can become accustomed to suffering, including me.
I don’t want another voiceless child to become part of the scenery.
What I am trying to understand
- Who are these children on the street in India bigger?
- Where do they sleep?
- Will they ever get an opportunity to education?
- Who receives the money they collect?
- What happens after they leave the street?
- Which organizations are already helping and what help actually works?
I saw some things. I was told many things. Now I want to learn what can be verified.
